Trading Up With Josh Rivkin
In his poem, New Economy, Josh Rivkin presents a litany of characters and things they want to “trade.” The idea of changing or “trading” something about ourselves is a compelling one. Write a poem or story in which you feature the idea of “trading” something about ourselves that we would like to change. Or create a character that wants to trade something about him or herself. Be creative. Also, be sure to explore the reasoning behind the “trade” and what that says about your characters.

Exchange
By Kaycee Macik I will exchange my eyes for yours So that you and I could see Into each other world Learning about one another I would trade my physical position For the position of one of you friends Hopefully a girl you don’t like So that I could be with you Everyday I wish that I sold my ipod and other iteams So that I could buy you or me a plane ticket So we can watch the Prince of Pop Praticing hard for the concert That I might buy a ticket for me and you Exchange my dawing of us ( that you love so much) For your bass So that I could listen to Your unnotice song That you might have written about me What you you trade to spend one more year with me? |
